Q: Will the course content be automatically copied to the new semester course sites?
A: No. Course content is not automatically copied to the new course sites. Bb allows Instructors themselves to copy the
content from one course site to another. See below.
Q: I want to copy course material from one course to another. How do I do it?
A: Instructors can use the 'Copy Course' option under the Control Panel to transfer content between courses they have
access to.
Follow these steps:
First, access the old course from where you want to copy content.
Click on Control Panel, and then on the 'Course Copy' link under the Course Options.
Click on 'Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course'.
Click on the Browse button to open a new window to search for the destination course. (Clicking on the Search button
will display all your courses).
Select the course into which you want to copy your content.
Choose the content areas to be copied, and click submit.
*** NOTE: Copying the same course again will create duplicate copies of the content in the
new course site. ***
OR
A: You can do this through the Export/Import tools under Course Options.
Follow these steps:
First export the course with the content that you wish to copy:
Login to myUSF and go to the source course.
Click on Control Panel, and the on 'Export Course'.
Choose the all areas you want to copy and Submit.
Follow the link to download the archived file to you PC.
Empty the target course so that you import into a fresh site:
Click on Control Panel, and then on 'Recycle Course'.
Check all boxes except users (this would cause you to lose your student enrollment).
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT RECYCLE USERS.
Type "Remove" at the bottom of the screen and Submit.
Next, import the course into myUSF:
Go to the Control Panel of the new course in myUSF.
Click 'Import Package' under Course Options.
Browse for the archived file from your PC.
Choose which contents areas to be copied, and Submit.
This may take several minutes.
Q: I have course content in another Blackboard server (e.g., bb61, savant, etc.) and wish to bring it to myUSF. How do
I do it?
A: Instructors can export course content from any other Bb 6 server and import it into an existing myUSF course site.
Follow these steps:
First export the course from the source server:
Click on Control Panel, and the on 'Export Course'.
Choose the areas you wanted to copy and Submit.
Follow the link to download the archived file to you PC.
Next, import the course into myUSF:
Go to the Control Panel of the new course in myUSF.
Click 'Import Package' under Course Options.
Browse for the archived file from your PC.
Choose which contents areas to be copied, and Submit.
Q: I transferred the content from an old course to the new course site, lost some documents during the process, and
need to copy them again. How do I do it?
A: Copying the entire course again will leave duplicate copies of everything. If you need to copy specific
items/sections of content, you should choose only those particular items/sections to be transferred (copied) again.
OR
A: You may also first recycle the entire course using the 'Recycle Course' option then do the copy again.
Q: I have not yet updated the content of the new course site. How do I make it unavailable to students so that they do
not see it until I am finished updating?
A: To make the course unavailable to students:
Click on Control Panel, and the on 'Settings' under Course Options.
Click on 'Course Availablity'.
Choose 'No' and click Submit.
Q: Have the access privileges of TA's changed?
A: Yes. TA's cannot anymore change the user roles in the course, though they can add users as students. For example,
they cannot add another TA to the course. This is restricted only to the Instructor.
Q: When will the students registered for the upcoming semester courses be enrolled in Bb?
A: As soon as the current semester (finals week) is complete, students are enrolled in their respective upcoming course
in Bb. As Bb is updated daily, newly registered students will be enrolled as and when they register with a maximum
delay of 24 hours.
Q: One of my students is taking an incomplete and I need to give access to one of my past courses. Can I do that?
A: Yes. You may add a student manually using the 'Enroll User' option under User Management in the Control Panel.
Q: Will students be able to check their grades from past semesters?
A: Yes. Students will be able to check their grades using the 'myUSF Grades' under from the myUSF Tools under the myUSF
tab. They will not have access to the past courses themselves, as these have been made unavaliable.
Q: My Collaboration/Chat session in the course does not work. What do I need to do?
A: For the collaboration server to work, Blackboard requires your browser to have at least JRE (Java plugin) version
1.4.1 (or later) installed. To check your browser configuration, use the Browser Wizard at
http://www.acomp.usf.edu/browsercheck/.
Q: I want to start setting up my course for next semester, when will my shell be ready?
A: Shells are usually ready 5 weeks before the start of the new semester.
Q: Do I have to enroll users into my Blackboard bourse?
A: When a studen registers for class they are automatically enrolled into Blackboard. Students should see a link to
their class in Blackboard 12 hours after enrollment.
Q: I have a TA who is also enrolled also as student in my class. Whenever I modify their role to a TA in Blackboard
their status is always switched back to Student. How do I prevent Blackboard from changing my TA back to a student?
A: If you are having problems with TA's switching back to students you need to remove the user from the course and
enroll them manually through the user management sections of your course control panel. Please note: You will loose
the grades associated with the TA when you remove them from course; make sure to backup their grades prior to removing
them from the Blackboard course.
Q: A student was administratively dropped from class by the Registrars, however I still want the student to have access
to the course, but whenever I search for their name to re-enroll them I get a "not found" message. What's
happening?
A: Blackboard will hide students who where administratively dropped from class. If you need to grant access to a
student who was administratively dropped you will have to contact a USF Blackboard administrator at
myusf@acomp.usf.edu.
Q: I plan on giving my students a 3 hour exam on Blackboard, what settings should I use to prevent the web browser from
timming out?
A: If you plan on having an exam which lasts longer than 1 hour please set the presentation mode of your test to
display questions "One at a Time." This will prevent the web browser from timming out on long exams.
Q: Is there a weekly scheduled maintainence time for Blackboard?
A: Weekly maintainence for Blackboard is usually scheduled for Thursday nights from 12 midnight to 2 am. Major upgrades
to Blackboard will be announced in several weeks in advanced.
Q: I need to download a publisher's content into Blackboard course. How do I it?
A: Publisher's contents can be downloaded using 'Import Course Cartridge' link from Control Panel. This feature can be
used
directly by the Instructor of the course. You only need to get the Download key from the publishers.
Q: I got an error message while downloading the publisher's contents into my Bb course? What do I do.
A: Please forward the error message to myusf@acomp.usf.edu mentioning the Course ID with section #. We will be able to
reset the download and troubleshoot and fix it, and you may then initiate the download again.
