Note: You must be connected to the Internet first before proceeding to connect with VPN.
The USF VPN Client may automatically start when Windows starts, though this will depend on your Windows configurations. Otherwise, you may begin using the USF VPN Client by clicking the Start menu button and selecting All Programs >> University of South Florida VPN Client >> Secure USF Connection.
The VPN Client will start in Simple Mode. You may click Connect to start communication with the USF network. As it connects, it will pop up a window asking for User Authentication.
The Username will be your entire USF e-mail address (e.g. rockybull9@mail.usf.edu). The Password will be the respective password to that e-mail address.
If your e-mail address and password successfully validate, you will receive a welcome message from the USF VPN concentrator as well as some information on where to find updates to this client. You may click Continue to proceed.
Note: Certain Web sites or Internet services may not work while connected to the USF Network. You must exit the VPN Client to regain access to these sites or services.
Try connecting to your restricted USF resources, such as e-mail or shared drives. In most cases, these features will work right away. Occasionally, you may need to configure shared drives or other network resources to function properly with the VPN Client (in which case you should get help from your college or department's computer staff).
If you are having trouble connecting to the shared drives or other network resources of your department or college, you should be able to get support from your department`s computer staff. If you cannot connect with the actual VPN Client, please feel free to get support from the Academic Computing Help Desk, or look through the troubleshooting information on the next page.
College of Arts and Sciences users: To connect to the VPN Client, you must use your entire e-mail address, username@mail.cas.usf.edu as username. Your password will still be your network password. Remember, cas.usf.edu is just a shortened version of your actual, entire e-mail address. For help mapping to your network drives or configuring your Outlook, please call CAS Computing at 974-2418.
